It still has to be scooped out around the hole. Others had the teardrop and ridge. If I remember correctly, bs&r is the only manufacturer that used NO. for number and IN. for size.

Im not a cast iron expert, I just inherited a bunch of cast iron and the damn biggest pressure canner ive ever seen a few years back. And I really didn't inherit it, just happened that nobody wanted any of it and were gonna throw it out when the FIL passed.
