What you really want is some weird "level playing field" that can never be defined
quote:what is this rambling nonsense. you don't even understand what people are trying to tell you
You rant about the tariffs being temporary as if that is good then you rant about needing tariffs to because we taking it in the shorts.
quote:you're right. tariffs are step one. get this - you can't get to step two until you take care of step one
If tomorrow all tariffs were eliminated we would still have a trade deficit.

Ending the trade deficit is not a goal I am concerned with. It is not a problem.

Trade deficits are not necessarily bad. In fact, many economists theorize that they are good for the economy.
That's not without tradeoffs, but overall it's a benefit.

In contrast, in countries where growth is led by demand, like the United States, the trade balance tends to worsen during growth stages of the business cycle. This is because these economies need to import even more goods than usual in order to grow.

why do you naively think tariff free trading will end trade deficits??
tell me why "balanced trade" is something we need???
There is no economic reason for that to be a goal. I like sending paper money to people for capital goods.
