No. Not a contender. A championship team.
See, this is where the skeptics like myself truly begin to understand the narratives.
Using ambiguous terms like “contender” and “competitive” leave room for spin and lack clear goals and standards.
LSU should be a championship WINNING program. Period. We are more than capable of it, and have just as many resources as anyone else to achieve it.
From 2001 to 2011 we won championships in four seasons, five including winning the West in 2005.
The previous coach was effectively fired after four seasons of not reaching that standard after the most successful seven year stretch in school history.
If O can’t reach that standard in 3.5 years there is no question he should be relieved of his command no matter how “competitive” a “contender” we convince ourselves he seems to be.
Even the die hard Miles supporters like myself openly admitted that anything less than winning the West in 2016 should have gotten him fired.
Because that WAS the standard back then and the reason he was fired no matter how much the apologists now try to claim it wasn’t.
The “needs more time” isn’t just a misleading narrative, it is a dishonest one.
The historical fact is that more time rarely leads to better results, but the more time one goes without winning a championship the less likely it is to ever happen.
