Firing coaches midseason is trashy and we can't get into all that BS.

We’re already there.

LSU plays five teams before the bye that are even halfway decent. Miami, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, MSU.

I would argue if he is 1-4 in those games he should be fired immediately. At that point we would clearly be going backward and not a single reasonable person would be able to make any rational argument otherwise.

Similar to Alleva’s bullshite argument that the players deserved better than Miles was giving them in September after last second losses to two top 10 level teams, the school would owe it to the players to remove an ineffective and burdensome leader that was clearly keeping the team from reaching its potential.

I don’t think that will happen because of those five games all are winnable and three are games we SHOULD win.

But to say that it can’t or shouldn’t is disingenuous and ill informed.

It is easy in the offseason to talk about records like 7-5 and say well that isn’t THAT bad, but that is ignoring the hysteria that will start taking hold as the losses start piling up on a weekly basis.

Particularly, if O can’t even his record against MSU and we are embarrassed AGAIN by a first year head coach in Tiger Stadium going into a two week break before Alabama, fans are going to be very very vocal about their displeasure for all the country to hear on national television.

It will be difficult to spin this stupid rebuild narrative when we aren’t talking in general but actually seeing the purple and gold getting beat by MSU or Felipe Franks and Mullen (again).

The bottom line is we are paying a DC head coach money because he is that fricking good and we have our best and most well trained QB we’ve had perhaps since Jimbo was on campus with what should be a great LSU defense.

If things go off the rails that early in the season there is nowhere else to point the finger other than O and there would be no denying his hiring was a huge mistake.

There would be no reason not to give Aranda the opportunity at that point to see if he could be the leader we are already practically paying him to be. O was given the chance to “interview on the job”, and Aranda is at least as deserving of that same shot imo.

Even if he goes 2-3 in those games, another loss to Alabama would put us at 5-4 and at that point his only remaining game in Tiger Stadium would be against Rice, not giving him an opportunity to win back the home crowd with a big win.

If he is 7-4 going into College Station against Jimbo Fisher I believe that will be a must win game for him.

Allowing Jimbo Fisher to snap the seven game win streak in Year 1 sending us to an Independence Bowl type bowl would again make it simply undeniable that we are moving backward, and very quickly.

With the 2019 season as our last shot with an Urban Meyer trained trained QB and perhaps Aranda, it would be an insult to the players to say “Well let’s give him one more shot to prove he isn’t really this bad” after THREE seasons in which we failed to meet our potential under his watch (dropping UF and missing the Sugar Bowl in 16, a loss to a Sun Belt team costing us 10 wins and likely another NY6 Bowl in 17, and what would amount to a disastrous 18 season).

7-5 would send him packing and rightfully so.

I personally think 8-4 should as well because I believe in how talented the players on this team are, unlike the apologists, and how much they could achieve given the quality coaching they deserve.

An LSU coach has lost more than three regular season games only three times since 2001.

2002
2008
2014

Those three teams had disasters at the QB position and also mediocre to bad defenses as well.

If this team with an Aranda D and Meyer QB is added to that list it would be an epic failure by the head coach and combined with his failures in his first two seasons in 16 and 17 should prove he isn’t up to the job he is now holding.

But I realize that isn’t likely and it will be spun to give him “one more chance”

Sounds like a great plan to lose the first game.
