Gianluigi Buffon was bought by Juventus in 2001 for 52M euro. At that time, that was equal to 46.8M dollars.

Alisson's fee was 72.5M euro = 84.5M 2018 dollars
I'm not surprised, due to player inflation and huge TV contracts for leagues, that Liverpool had to pay an 18M premium in 2018 over that of a comparable transfer in 2001.

The standard for transfers, and back the the euro was no where near as strong as it is now.
