Jason White won the Maxwell award and Oklahoma had Adrian Peterson who finished 2nd in Heisman voting probably because he was only a freshman.
And they still got beat down. 55-19.
People forget how stacked that Oklahoma team was offensively, and they still had one of the best defenses in college football on top of that. Adrian Peterson and Jason White finished second and third in the Heisman voting that year.
So, in the lead up to that national championship game, you had ESPN trumpeting that the players who finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the Heisman voting were going to be playing on the same field at the same time. And White had won the Heisman the year before.
The hype proceeding the 2005 Orange Bowl was astronomical.

Vegas had USC (minus-1) over Oklahoma.
That's how close they felt the public viewed this game. Nobody knew who was going to win.
It's the closest line on a BCS title game and yet the biggest margin of victory.
