8 and top 4 seeds host home games.

There really is no other practical way to do it, scheduling-wise.

I agree with Top4 hosting a game. Expanding the playoff would also mean cutting down on the number of bowl games... need to up the win total to 7 to qualify for the bowl games and be stringent on that.

Can’t allow any more 5-7 teams go go bowling.

I like this solution. I really think the opening rounds should be "hosted" by the higher seed. This cuts down travel, rewards the higher seed, and improves attendance.
5 champions, 1 Group of Five(must meet min criteria of some type), 2/3 wildcards.
I also like another poster's suggestion that you should require a 7 win season to participate in a bowl. That should weed out some of the useless bowls.
