Could you imagine someone taking control of the internet right now and turning it off for 2 random days of the week?
It's a bad message. It's not learn self control over addiction. It's do gooders should be able to force you off things for your own good because reality is real.

They get weekends again and push a hoop down the street with a stick.
It seems like your hang up is really this one line.
Yes there's issues with this solution in the movie but it's not this insurmountable they nuked the world scenario.
It's more an ethical conundrum attached to a happy ending. And easily something that another story can be made on.
