You have no idea how much money a year I run through American Express at 0% interest. My company is spending the money anyway so I might as well get a benefit from my spending.
As you said, they charge the merchant the processing fee and not me.

same.
i run pretty much all business expenses thru chase/amex/starwood reward programs (outside payroll and rent)
enrollment offers alone tend to be enough for 2 1st class tickets.
concerning that around the world flight via ANA...
i'm pretty *sure those were all business class tickets....which would normally cost $10-11k out of pocket
just joining amex plat and running $25,000 in business expenses over 3 months would net you 125k points (which is more than enough for that round the world trip)

The merchant is likely adding in the fee into the price of the good sold.
But this benefits the credit user as the good is the same price regardless of payment method used. The loser is a cash purchaser, who is subsidizing the credit users.
