This question is for anyone: How bad was 2019 Louisiana basketball talent and how good can 2020 be? Is Jalen Cooks gonna be heavily recruited?

Very very bad.
There was early hope Mylik Wilson could turn into a major conference prospect, but then last year in AAU play he kind of stunk it up not being able to hit 3's or distribute (not good for a 6'1.5, 150 pound guard), so his options got quickly limited. He probably isn't really the #1 player in the state despite the composite saying that. I mean the #1 player in the state going to ULL?
Greg Hammond will be a bit interesting to follow, he's headed up to Rhode Island. Committed and signed to them pretty early. He could have gone to either major MS schools supposedly. He's got more size to him than Mylik, but also isn't a great 3 point shooter, more of a get to the rim scorer.
Jordan Wright we were keeping on the backburner if we felt like we couldnt grab enough guys in front of him, but he recently signed with Vandy now getting him off the board. He's got great size (6'6, 200ish). Vandy was pretty desperate for some 2 guys so they probably convinced him he would get a lot of early playing time. Again, another not great shooter, but best size of the Top 3 in Louisiana.
Hard to say no one will stand out from this class, but it certainly appears that way for the 2019 group of LA kids right now.
For 2020 it's not contest it being quite a bit better, we have been recruiting Jalen Cook heavily for football and basketball for a while now. Reece Beekman, a former teammate of Smart, also we have kept a very close eye on. Cook won LA gatorade player of the year but it could have very easily gone to Beekman, who averaged a TRIPLE DOUBLE over the course of a whole season. Cook is just a little more athletic, but there's a ton to like about Beekman. I've been adamant in wanting us to sign both those guys, especially if Smart leaves after next season. We're also heavily pursuing LJ Cryer out of state though too. Beekman has picked up offers from Cal, TCU and new Alabama coach Nate Oats in the last couple days.
Make note Beekman is actually from up north, moved down to Louisiana a few years back.
