Because you didn't fix the problem you only fixed the problem the problem caused.
Ice forms as frost solidifies due to defrost failure. Melting it only fixed it for a few days. You need the fridge to melt it daily. Likely the timer or the thermostat was the culprit.
Easy cheap fixes. Unless it was a GE then your dodged a bullet.
