Sarasota proper used to also be known as winter quarters for the circus folks. A lot of them are still in the area, even with Ringling closing.
I had some friends that lived in Bradenton. Bradenton is a few miles north of Venice. They lived on some canals that led into the Little Manatee river. I used to go down and go fishing with them and loved it. I hated when they moved.
Plan to buy a boat or some Wave Runners. You will want them.

Sarasota county has the 6th best school district in FL. They are mostly ranked in the B range. They do get a C in sports but that is their lowest grade. Somebody from down there can tell you better on specific schools.
If you hunt, the deer are small and hogs are plentiful. There is some freshwater fishing but it is mostly about the salt. Within an hour you have some theater and cool museums. There is good food everywhere but if you like to cook, buying smoked sausage to cook with in FL is not good.
There are a lot of Hispanic people and islanders. Most are just trying to work and enjoy life. Here is a crime map. Sarasota county crime map
There are some taxes and fees but it is not the onslaught that I saw in LA. They also try to provide services to the people. My house is worth about $230k and I pay about $200 a month for taxes and insurance. Insurance has grown way higher than taxes.
Once somebody from there gives you the names of the better schools, you can decide what you want to spend on housing and we will find you something cool on Zillow.
