It's such a transparent talking point. We all know the nature of the North Korean regime. We are here because they have acquired nuclear weapons and our goal is to establish verifiable denuclearization of a dangerous state. They have been in tyrannical power for the better half of a century, this isn't anything new. The regime is an entrenched power. So we can have a tyrannical regime with nuclear weapons or we can lower our rhetoric in the aims of making them a less dangerous international actor who remains tyrannical domestically. The leftist talking point seems to suggest that denuclearization is not desirable unless it is coupled with the collapse of the regime, which of course is asinine on multiple levels.

Not to mention mutually beneficial agreements that potentially result in verifiable denuclearization in exchange for the cessation of American military exercises and lifting of trade sanctions could serve to soften the regime's domestic behaviors long term through the carrot of bettering relations with the international community and the rewards that brings. The left is behaving shamefully in their tireless quest to diminish anything that can be perceived as a victory for Trump.
