I just don't understand how this happens.
Kid has no job, no source of income to live on, no education, not legally allowed to make age of majority decisions, no discernible skills to help out around the house, and is altogether torture to be around.
I'm not a parent, but I feel like I could fix this. The first tantrum where he goes overboard like that, drawing blood on his mom? His guitar is going straight to the pawn shop. Then the phone. Then the PC. He physically resists? Fine. Here come the cops to put me in possession of the things I bought. He initiates a fight? Get ready to be put down. I would literally wear around a body camera so that whatever means I used to defend myself would be documented as justified. He runs away? Fine. Have fun trying to live on your own. He decides that he's Julius Ceasar and will never, ever, ever, accept defeat and is determined to resist forever? Great! My obligations toward you end! Emancipation, restraining order, and physical removal.
This is exactly what my parents would have done. I lived in their house, not the other way around. That feckless father is trying to love his kid into a better person, but junior doesn't speak that language.
