My neighbor is doing the exact thing - Disney after Thanksgiving. 2nd and 6th grader. I personally would not tell the teachers. Some could be jerks about it and not excuse the kids for missing. If it ever came up, I'd say the kids had the flu or something. Really not any business of the school / teacher. As long as they don't miss much school it's no big deal.

Well that is just retarded... If you let the teacher know ahead of time many will work with you to make sure the child isn't missing too much. Why? Because it is a pain in the arse for the teacher, your child, and you to catch them up for a week's worth of material.
