How big is the plant? Did you check around the stem near ground level to see if anything has been gnawing on the stem and hurt it enough to kill it?
I've had problems in the past with cut-worms and other pests killing plants and depending on where you live, it could be rabbits or other animals getting to them.

I put them in just before Easter. Normal looking growth about 3 feet tall loaded with flowers and one eggplant. The surrounding eggplants are different species and producing nicely. I pulled it and discarded. The base seemed to have a slimy substance but I had just watered so it may be the water. My tomato and peppers etc seem to be worm and pest free and are looking good.
