Disappointed in your acceptance of this? Honestly, I don't know you.. but as a fellow citizen.. yes, your willingness to accept the double-standard is troublesome.
I don't accept it. I hate it, as a matter of fact. Its ubiquity doesn't diminish how outrageous it is. So it's fine to point out the double-standard. But it seems to me that we ought to be way past the point of shocked stupefaction at this phenomenon.
And there's something very simple that Roseanne could have done to avoid this whole flap:
"When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent." (Proverbs 10:19, ESV)
"Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent." (Proverbs 17:28, ESV)
"Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves." (Matthew 10:16, ESV)
We need to pick our battles. There are free speech hills worth dying on. Likening Valerie Jarrett to an ape isn't one of them.
