But you could use the clashes between fascist and communist factions in America at the time to draw parallels.
Battlestar Galactica was able to comment on the Iraq war via the Cylon war and even had episodes from the perspective of suicide bombers.

Battle star galactica was out to tell a relatable story.
Not shovel a perspective down people’s throats.
The short version to your question is that they could....but story telling isn’t the apparent primary focus of the writers. Telling a story from a certain angle is, and if it is good so much the better.
