The man played offense, defense, and special teams and was great on all of them!

Sad day for LSU. Rest in peace number 20.

In particular, that era of LSU football had Dietzel who pioneered platoon football in a time of limited substitution (and before hyperspecialization) the famous, "White", "Go" and "Chinese Bandits" era - in fact, in the same famous game, 10/31/1959, Ole Miss had the ball 4th and goal with 18 seconds to go - Elmore was in (Gibbs was either dinged up or just gassed at that point, because he was to them as Cannon was to us) and was tackled short to end the game. The players combining on the tackle were #12 and #20, the starting QB and RB for LSU - the stars of the White Team (Rabb and Cannon).

It was always said that, as much as he and Mac loved the Bandits, Dietzel wanted the White Team on the field, on defense, if the game was on the line.
