I haven't used the S9, so I can't say much about it.
However, I have a Pixel 1 XL and love it. Unlimited storage of photos/videos at native resolution on Google Photos as long as they are uploaded from the phone.
You get Android updates quicker because they don't have to get the manufacturer's tweaks included. You also get a pure Android experience without the bloatware crap the other manufacturers put on.
