Slander isn't illegal, and theoretically this cop could sue this woman.

But he'd have a hard time proving damages and that is one of the elements needed to prove libel or slander and win a civil suit.

In other words , if I accused you of having sex with a monkey on this web site that's a lie (I hope) but you are unlikely to have suffered any damages from it, so you would not win a law suit.

I'm well aware it is a civil claim.

Not really. Pain and suffering are damages.

Again, not true. If my identity were exposed, some people would think I'm fricking monkeys. That would be detrimental to my well-being and state of mind, not to mention career.
