Good Morning *Military Appreciation Month*

Rise and Shine. What branch of military and what years?
Not only do we pause on Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice and service of those who gave all, but the month also holds several other military anniversaries and events, including Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Armed Forces day.
Join Military.com as we honor the service and sacrifice of members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and National Guard as well as the contribution of their spouses.
Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the chance to publicly show their appreciation for troops past and present.
1573 Henry of Anjou becomes the first elected king of Poland.
1689 French and English navies battle at Bantry Bay.
1690 In the first major engagement of King William's War, British troops from Massachusetts seize Port Royal in Acadia (Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) from the French.
1745 French forces defeat an Anglo-Dutch-Hanoverian army at Fontenoy.
1792 The Columbia River is discovered by Captain Robert Gray.
1812 British Prime Minster Spencer Perceval is shot by a bankrupt banker in the lobby of the House of Commons.
1857 Indian mutineers seize Delhi.
1858 Minnesota is admitted as the 32nd U.S. state.
1860 Giuseppe Garibaldi lands at Marsala, Sicily.
1862 Confederates scuttle the CSS Virginia off Norfolk, Virginia.
JOTD: Two young guys appear in court after being arrested for smoking dope.
The judge says, "You seem like nice young men, and I'd like to give you a second chance
instead of jail time. I want you to go out this weekend and try to convince others of the evils
of drug use. I'll see you back in court Monday."
On Monday, the judge asks the first guy, "How did you do over the weekend?"
"Well, your honor, I persuaded 17 people to give up drugs forever."
"Seventeen people? That's wonderful. How did you do it?"
"I used a diagram, your honor. I drew two circles like this: Oo.
Then I told them that the big circle is your brain before drugs and the small circle is your
brain after drugs. "That's admirable," says the judge.
Then he turns to the second guy. "And how did you do?"
Well, your honor, I persuaded 156 people to give up drugs forever."
"Wow!" says the judge. "156 people! How did you manage to do that?"
"Well, I used a similar diagram," the guy says.
"I drew two circles like this: oO.
Then I pointed to the little circle and said, 'This is your a-hole before prison .."

RIP to your brothers Cajun. Tomorrow, I will head over to Tampa with an old timer. I always knew he was in the Army in the early 70's. He doesn't talk about it. One day a kid asked him if he was ever in the service. He said yes. The kid asked what he did. He just said 82nd.
I would like to know a little more but his history has shown he is not willing to talk about it so I don't ask.
Good guy.
