a lot of rankings are based on peer ratings. Other southern insitutions don't seem to care for LSU. Plus look at the reputation of the state: corrupt, broke, poor, unhealthy....

this would be my guess. LSU Law is basically worthless outside of Louisiana, right?

Or do well in school and get scholarships. 44 is absolutely better than 80 something.

Well there is a reason why a lot of people pick SU as their "safety school" when applying.

naw. it isn't THAT different. and you have to take a lot of common law classes anyway

the thing is that LSU has to teach code classes to prepare us for the bar. and they do this in an attempted european way, b/c that's where the code is originally from. but LSU has to find code teachers out there to teach

these teachers aren't going to get nationally recognized because their writing isn't exactly something that impresses the "big names" in the nerdy academic writing circles. but LSU must hire and use them

the "big name" professors that LSU hires are international professors that don't carry much weight in the US. if LSU could justify hiring a bunch of common law super profs our rankings would rise accordingly. LSU can't do this, however

don't most people get schollies to tulane?

tulane has an academic reputation b/c it is private and it recruits a lot of northeastern kids (who funny enough go to tulane because they can't get into "Good" schools in the northeast)

this reputation often doesn't hold the same weight in the hiring world. if just me sees this thread he'll explain moreso
