Knew a guy who said "run away from "XXXX" as fast as you can". He got sued and well deserved it.
An attorney pal told me he once got an applicant rejected by giving what he thought was a glowing reference, because the positives described in the reference call fitted someone below the job opening's pay grade.
That's why I only give a reference when I know the applicant well, *really* owe them a favor, and know the details of the prospective job.
