I was there. And I appreciate your take, as you are obviously a Romones fan.

I'm not. I thought their set was the biggest bunch of noise I'd ever heard in person, and 3/4 of the crowd totally tuned them out for that reason. But, it only built the anticipation for real music that was about to happen.

Not to mention, the canceled PJ tour at the height of their popularity made the only 4 shows they did nationwide that year all the more special. People came from all over the country to see that show. I was partying with people from Florida and Pennsylvania.

With the rain earlier in the day, the padded floor of Tad Gormley, the low-hanging clouds drifting over the stadium illuminated by the city lights on a balmy September night, and the anticipation... Pearl Jam put on my favorite concert ever.

You could tell that the band was eager to perform, too. The crowd matched their intensity. I think the crowd singing "Alive" was louder than the band. It was magical to experience, and I've been to a boatload of concerts.

Several years later, 92.3 WCKW asked the question, "What was the best concert you ever saw in New Orleans?" and Pearl Jam at Tad Gormley was the easy winner.
