Everybody keeps talking about "locking down the state of Louisiana".

there is and never has been any such reality as "locking down the state of Louisiana". nor any other state for that matter. I think many Louisiana kids are more loyal to the state than other states but many are cool with going elsewhere and ALWAYS have been. the best LSU can do is get most kids to stay in the boot.

Locking down the state is a reference to keeping the home grown high level talents at home. But it's more a reference to thee fact that LSU is the only major conference football participant in the state. Most states have at least 2-3 big schools and many have a but more. When you have a state with no true home town competition to rival that will steal away players like so many others have to deal with as a normal problem, on top of the fact that LSU is in a state that produces the most elite level talent percapita of any state, and beyond that is generally seen as a very good football state for high school, it's always Texas, California, and Florida that are up top but Louisiana is in that next teir down in terms of talent and competition, the fact that all that talent only ever grows up seeing one big time school run the show in terms of the talents of the state and most grow up literally dreaming of one day playing at LSU where in Louisiana for the most part is where you are always pushed to go anyway.

When Jerry Dinardo got Kevin Faulk to come to LSU it signaled a new era of LSU football. The best players who had not even begun to think about LSU were all now taking a look. Nick sabans made it a monster and pulled in some serious classes. Won a title...handed it off and Les miles kept it going. Won another title. For the most part over the last 15 years like half of the top 15-20 la kids come to LSU. Some big misses. Joe McKnight. Probably won't ever get over goddamn Landon Collins. But we've pulled some dudes in. We missed on Collins but got Jamal Adams. We missed on this kid but got that one. It'll keep going as long as LSU remains the only major conference football school in the state. Yeh lately the north la schools have been not near as automatic and even words like boycott were thrown around. But we've gotten plenty of those kkids from around there too. As long as LSU has no state competition they won't falter....
