Why do you want to be on the plane longer? Unless I happen to be in First Class, I like being one of the last frickers to board. Less time I have to be crammed in a tiny seat.

I get that, but I've gotten screwed before by not having any place near me for carry on.
Sitting on row 12, but having to place your carry on row 38 sucks
