THat's not that bad...

I would have no issue at all with him starting the first few games and going from there. I don't want to ruin our young QBs if they aren't ready yet.

In this era of early playing time, young players with massive egos who don't like to sit on the bench.....I think if you start JM, you risk alienating both Brennan and Narcisse camps. One of those QBs has to be the guy you can build around for years ahead. Also, if you start JM against Miami and if JM doesn't win early, then you also alienate the fanbase who will always assume the Brennan/Narcisse talent potential just needs game time to produce results.

Basically, the media would summarize this regime's accomplishments after two years removed from Les Miles as being an offense in year 2 built with Miles' TE Coach and using a depth-chart QB because you couldn't develop either highly rated QB on the roster into a starter with a full two offseasons in your program.

It may not be fair to JM to write him off like that, but Orgeron needs an offense built around Brennan or Narcisse. He can't survive a mediocre season with JM starting, but he could buy himself more time with a mediocre season with Brennan/Narcisse.

First of all, this would be an irrational approach for a coach to take. You start the guy you think will help you to win that game.

Second of all, this is a lose lose situation. You don’t play to the future and also play to the fans perception. When half your fan base wants you gone yesterday, you don’t play for tomorrow. You can’t afford to listen to the fans who want a guy that will need to take his lumps when those same fans will want you gone for not winning every single game.

Bottom line is a coach can’t afford to think that way.
