This board doesn't perform any policy research, or basically anything a think tank does. It isn't a think tank in any sense of the term. It's not even all that thoughtful of a place. There are thoughtful posters, but it seems to me that it is what you expect of a political message board attached to a sports message board for a university in the south.

What Think Tanks are used for traditionally and what a think tank is in this situation as compared to an echo chamber are two different things.
I’m simply pointing out that referring to it as an echo chamber insists there’s censoring of certain ideas happening and those things aren’t happening. All thoughts are welcome to think in this tank.

think tanks don't do policy research - they are paid to produce reports and support positions that bolster a given agenda.
This place, like many others on the internet, has been ahead of think tanks, the media, and various commentators with quite a few items -
this place was a couple steps ahead of every media outlet I'm aware of, with regard to Trump's signing of the omnibus, what it meant, what constrained him, his options etc. To be honest, this place had the most thorough debate about that topic, by far.
this place (partially) and a few others began putting heat on Sessions before Trump did, and way before many of the experts out there; and also this board started calling out Adam Schiff for looking like he may be a leaker before anyone Congress or elsewhere had the balls to do it.
finally, I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but I've seen quite a few comments and threads about popular commentators, especially Hannity, and how awful he is at interviewing and interrupting people and how he needs to allow his guests to make his points for him and recently he's done way, way less interrupting. Maybe there's influence or maybe it's just coincidence, and perhaps many sites have said the same thing so he could not help but notice that feedback
i doubt this place is monitored as much as reddit, but i'm sure it's looked at a little bit. in any event, it's ahead of the curve pretty often.

This board doesn't perform any policy research, (not a requirement of a think tank) or basically anything a think tank does. (Not even an argument since you gave no examples and it’s literally what a think tank does.) It isn't a think tank in any sense of the term. (Except for the definition which it 100% is.) It's not even all that thoughtful of a place. (Your opinion and sometimes right. Many times wrong.) There are thoughtful posters, but it seems to me that it is what you expect of a political message board attached to a sports message board for a university in the south.
And your response to this is.......?
quote:
The definition of a think tank is a body of experts providing advice and ideas on specific political or economic problems. What do you think this place is if not a wildly diverse body of experts discussing relevant political problems as they pertain to each individual expertise?
