Why do we trust the FO?

It's now known SP wanted to take Mahommes and Foster last draft. So, the Saints got extremely lucky in that the Saints drafted Lattimore and Ramczyck.
Why should a similar result be expected from the 2018 draft?

Nobody expected Foster to be this much of an idiot off the field, and Mahommes would’ve made sense for the future at the time.

You don't just luck into the kind of draft we had in 2017.

You just contradicted yourself. The FO didn’t draft them. I know it wasn’t an option but they didn’t. Wants and actions are different. I want to F your mom but I don’t because I have standards.

Because loomis isn’t involved in personnel anymore

Pretty sure Mahommes is an unknown at this point. Kind of unfair to say that was a good pick or a bad pick.
Foster was actually a damn good player on the field last year. I don't think anyone could have predicted that he would be this much of a psycho off the field though.
To trust the FO...all you have to do is look at the transformation of the roster since Ireland arrived 3 years ago. It's been night vs day since he arrived (especially on the defensive end).

A similar result shouldn’t be expected.... we literally hit one of the greatest drafts of all time. That being said, the fact that we wanted Mahommes (who the jury is still out on, but appears good enough for KC to trade away their starting QB) and Foster (who tore it up despite injury and off the field issues) has nothing to do with whether or not we should trust the front office regarding talent evaluations. 3 of those 4 players are studs, and the 4th very well may be.
We should trust the front office even more that they had the wherewithal to draft Lat and Ram despite the players we coveted in front of us going.

I trust Ireland !!!!
Payton & Loomis to select players..... not so much.

I agree. My post wasn't a troll. My concern is that we need all 8 picks to plug holes and fill depth. I don't want to trade up for a QB.

I kind of did. I believe my words were "I give it 3 years before he's out of the league because of injuries and/or legal trouble." I fricked up giving him 2 extra years.
But yeah we have no idea what Mahomes will be so that could be one of those win/win where no matter which one we took it would've been great for us.
But bullet definitely dodged on Foster. All that talent but no damn brain to go with it. That could not have worked out better.

Definitely not. We had 2 firsts, 1 second, and 3 thirds.
This year we have 1 first and 1 third.
That's 6 picks vs. 2 picks in the top 3 rounds.
But you can look at it as 5 picks vs. 3 picks if you count Kamara as our second rounder this year (that we got a year early). That was a knockout investment.

It's even more of a difference if you take into account where Kamara was drafted in the 3rd. That was an early 3rd round pick.
Last year...we had 4 picks into the early 3rd round. This year...we have 1. There's a big difference between the early 3rd & late 3rd imo.
This is more of a depth draft compared to last year. At least I hope it is, b/c if it isn't...that means that we traded our picks to acquire a single player.

True. While I like Hendrickson he doesn't seem like he'll be more than a good rotational guy/low end starter. Once you start getting outside the top 80ish the talent pool usually starts dipping a lot. You can still hit, but the hit rate starts dropping dramatically.

Yep. Some people on here don't like how I continuously talk about targeting certain positions from the 4th round & later. It's just that the hit rate on those positions are much higher than really coveted positions.
That's exactly what he is.

I see this draft shaking out more similarly to the 2016 draft. We will find ways to move up into the first 3 rounds, similar to what Bone just alluded to in terms of finding top 80 talent. Giving up future draft picks to try and acquire a few picks to get us to the SB with Brees seems to fit more in line with where we are at than drafting for pure depth. We have enough young players that we will eventually have to pay them in the next few years.
We have a more pressing need to make sure we get at least one immediate impact player from this draft, and the chances of that are better by getting more early round picks. Thing is, we won’t trade back to do it. So we will either have to package players we have now that are expendable, or we will have to mortgage future picks.

Not to mention, Ireland is set to bolt soon for a GM job, but he covets that Superbowl big time.
Posted on 4/12/18 at 11:10 pm to Zoltan
I don't think CSP will let that happen. Besides handling the money...Ireland is basically already the GM. I actually like the trio of CSP, Loomis, & Ireland.

You don’t think CSP will let Ireland bolt ? The only way I see this happening is if they officially crown him with the title of GM while Loomis segways to some dual Pels/Saints position that’s only requires him to manipulate the cap.
ETA: I replied before you edited. Yes he’s the GM, but I believe the title needs to be there for him to stay.
