Excellence Playa Mujeres Recommendations

About this time next week I will be getting ready to head down to Excellence Playa Mujeres for my honeymoon. I found this place thanks to this board and I would like some recommendations on what to do when we get there.
What are the best places to eat, what are some things we should try, and what are the best excursions? We got a swim up room and the excellence package as well.

How many nights are you staying? You need to try all the restaurants. Have been 3 times to EPM and planning for a 4th this summer. Always a good time. Great choice with the swim up and excellence club, you wont be disappointed.
Best restaurant is the French. There is a wine cellar you can also book for a more private/special dining experience.

I’m here now on the beach listening to podcasts. A must do is isle Mujeres. We did it yesterday and loved playa Norte beach and renting a golf cart. The spa here is absolutely amazing too. A couple of things you should be aware of before you get here is the bathroom situation in the rooms. The toilet is basically open to the whole room and has no vent. It’s a really bad design flaw in my opinion. The other is the beach cabana seat saving game. People will wake up at like 6 am and put their stuff on chairs to save and then won’t show back up until lunch. It’s ridiculous
ETA if you paid for excellence club you shouldn’t have a problem with the beach cabanas. Take a taxi to the Ultramar ferry port to get to isle Mujeres. Don’t do the catamaran excursion from the resort

We had our honeymoon there last fall. Off the top of my head here some random things I remember.
Chez Isabel was the best resteraunt. I would recommend eating there more than once vs going to try them all. Next would be Spice then Agave in my opinion. The rest were all just ok but then again it could have been what I ordered.
The breakfast buffet is the shite! So many different foods and juices. Really the perfect way to get over a hangover. Room service breakfast was also excellent.
Definitely hit up the juice bar for a coconut which you can take to another bar and have rum put in.
Don’t waste your time on the tequila tasting - the excellence club bar has all the different kinds already and they will pour them all for you even the mescal with the worm in it.
Have the Excellence club bartender make you a Carajillo. It’s a liqour drink with expresso and will perk you back up after a long day of boozing on the beach.
If you tip a buck here and there - especially on the beach - you will get markedly better service.
Order an Iceburg drink. It’s half beer and margarita and is excellent.
The free hydration therapy thing at the spa is kinda lame and takes an hour but the messages they do are legit. You can negotiate as well on their services and the prices change daily based on demand it seems. It went way down in price mid week.

How are the beaches now? I have been hearing about bad seaweed buildups.

just got back from there on a 8 day trip.
The restaurants are good...remember to bring a collar shirt, pants and closed toe shoes as this is the dress code for the higher end resturants. The only place that does reservations is Hibachi part of the Asian restaurant. If you decide that is something you want to do then get in line about 345pm as they open to take reservations a 4pm. The steak house is probably the best and the mexican was probably the worst. Find Giovany at the Central plaza bar( near your room) he will take care of you
AS a previous poster said take a cab to the ferry that takes you to Isla Mujeres and do your own day trip there.
To rent a golf cart bring your drivers lic as they will keep it while you rent a cart. It should cost about $800 pesos for the entire day.
A really cool place to snorkel from the beach on Isla is Garrafon Castillo. Its not very updated but you can buy fish food and you you will see a ton of fish. You can also rent snorkeling equipment there if you do not plan on bringing your own. The nachos and guacamole where great and the iguanas will eat right off your spoon.
Shopping on Hidalgo is a good time and Rolandi's has great food.Soggy Peso is a cool little bar on the island and we also found an awesome little shack bar at the very end turn-around past Villa Rolandi hidden up in the bushes to the right. They made some of the best drinks we had on vacation.
Overall Excellence is an amazing place. Bring a few hundred in $1's and $5's for tipping. Your swim up room is also the shite as well. The club access is also a major plus as you have a beach area and several bistros for club use only.
oh and one last thing... in the main dining hall find the coconut french toast.
Have fun!
