Thought it was pretty clear he was having Delirium Tremens from alcohol withdraw, at least that's what it looked like. The end of the previous episode he said that he was going to be out for a few days to a couple of weeks, and that's how long it takes to go through that, if it isn't fatal.

I think y'all are right on this - there was an earlier episode where Crozier was called out for taking too much liquor from the stores. Also, I started reading the book yesterday and Crozier talks about his drinking problem by page 10.
A very well done series. I love it - more people need to watch it.
