Since you asked....
I’ve learned to expect less from people.
Also being much more careful over who I remain friends with. Have also realized that the smoother someone talks, the more likely it is they are compensating and/or lying about things. It’s usually the quiet and humble guys that make the best friends/mentors.
I am also protecting myself by cutting people out of my life that diminish my happiness. Whether they are truly bad people or not isn’t really the point. If they aren’t a good fit for you, that is reason enough to cut them out.
