Hasn’t he said he’s fine retiring? If so, then he does have the leverage.

It’s his choice, and if the toll of playing in the NFL is in his mind 17 mill then he can ask for it

It’s only leverage if they believe him, which I doubt they do (because I’m pretty sure no one believes him).

He really doesn’t though, because there’s no way he actually willing to retire. He’ll sign a contract for something before he starts selling fishing poles at Academy. If it’s not about the gaurenteed money, then the Steelers should meet him around 13 mil or so for a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option. If he keeps producing at this rate, he’s worth it or at least close to it. If he’s not, cut him and their only out $26 mil or so. No way I’d sign him for more than 3 years though, he’s almost definitely about to start declining, and possibly declining rapidly.
