Tips to Increase Performance on an Older MacBook Pro?

I really only use this machine to surf the net, but slowly it's been progressively locking up more and more. I've never really done anything to help it. Anything that I could do to significantly help it out?

How much RAM? 4 GB is minimal, 8 GB is money.

SSD and RAM upgrade, get rid of junk files and programs that you don't need, clean OS install.

Ssd
Ram
In that order (assuming you only websurf, don’t run multiple programs at once, and aren’t using websites that heavily tax system resources)
