That was a great memory in '86. Yes, we were fortunate to play the first two games at home and likely don't make that magical run otherwise, but we did go to Atlanta and beat Georgia Tech with Salley and Mark Price and Kentucky with Kenny Sky Walker. So we earned our way by doing that IMHO.

We had talent on that team, but there was the Chicken Pox thing and losing Nikita mid-season to the "Gestapo Bastards" rendered us to Cinderella status which suited Dale just fine. But make no mistake, with John Williams, Derrick Taylor, Don Redden, and Anthony Wilson and Rickey Blanton.....that team was better than an 11-seed that barely made the tourney and they showed that.

I actually thought the team the next year made a more impressive run. They had nowhere near the talent of the '86 squad and make IMHO a more improbable run, all things considered.

If I remember right, in 87 Fess Irvin misses either 2 FTs or front end of 1&1 at the end. We should’ve been in back to back Final 4s. Was in New Orleans too in 87.
