Waymo not at fault though...

Sure, but it's a valid criticism/hurdle for the industry right now. You're less likely to be involved in an accident riding with a random 50 year old than you are in a Google Waymo vehicle. That's a costly proposition at the moment.

That being said, the incidents with self-driving vehicles tend to be minor, so while the last study on injuries in 2015 noted higher rates among self-driving passengers, their fatality rates were much lower (0 deaths).

I think we all agree on that, well all but 1 of us. We also all recognize, as you said, the self driving cars are rarely at fault as it's human driver error, and yes again, by "all" I mean all but 1 of us.

That chart is horribly misleading, though. The human drivers get the benefit of being broken out by age range, but all of Waymo's wrecks are shown against each age range. The effect is that it looks like Waymo gets in way more wrecks than humans of all but the most extremes of the age ranges. In actuality, Waymo won't displace only drivers of certain ages, but all drivers and you have to compare its record to humans as an aggregate to get the true story.

Lump all humans together and compare to Waymo or break Waymo's wrecks out into how old the person in the other car was to match the age ranges that the humans are broken into and that chart might be useful.

It's a very weird chart though. And if the waymo car isn't at fault, the data is meaningless. If someone rear ends a driverless cars, the fact that it is driverless has nothing to do with it.
