I make my own chatter baits and also in-line spinners. On my chatter baits I use a jig head with the eye rotated 90 degrees from normal, (found them at one of the on-line parts sellers) then split ring to blade.
I use a clip on blade for the line tie, no split ring there.
Runs straight, catches fish.

Another issue is I can't find blades with the bent up leading edge like z man has. I buy flat blades, then use a pair of linesman pliers to bend the front edge up.
I find the bent up lip ones actually track straighter than the flat blades.

I guess the better question would have been, “is it possible to make vibrating jig that runs straight, with a split ring between the jig and blade?” That pretty much answers my question. The eye you are talking about, is it parallel or perpendicular to the hook?
