I always likened a marriage to the beginning of a marathon. No one has a huge celebration at the beginning of a marathon.
I've always disliked weddings in general, but nothing I hate worse in the world than big elaborate weddings with huge turnouts. Would rather jam an icepick into my retina than go to one.
If I ever found a woman that said she'd be happy with a 15 minute ceremony around 20 friends/family in my backyard, I'd marry her with the quickness.
