Freedom of speech protects speech about homosexuality. Freedom to marry whomever is not included under the category of free speech.

Christians who had a hand in setting the rule of law in this country came from a situation where people were being persecuted for not following Catholic doctrine. Many suffered and were martyred for it. They set out to build a society that gave freedoms to all free people (slavery is obviously the terrible contradiction). The political philosophy was born from Jewish and Christian philosophy on good governence.

Right over your head...

The same mental gymnastics that allows "Love your neighbor as yourself" to promote freedom of speech could also be used to advocate for gay marriage.

The common sense approach is that the Bible doesn't promote free speech, if it did it wouldn't have taken Christians the better part of 2,000 years to figure it out.
