from marc stein's newsletter:

“I hear it,” Davis said. “It’s kind of fun to hear my name in the MVP talks. Of course it’s an achievement that every N.B.A. player wants, but that’s not the ultimate goal. I have plenty more time in this league for that. I want to make the playoffs. And not just make the playoffs — I want to make noise.”
quote:
“I take it personal because I should be able to carry my team to the playoffs every year,” Davis said. “It shouldn’t be, ‘They make the playoffs every two years, every three years.’ I put a lot of pressure on myself. That’s just how my mentality works.”

When visiting with Anthony Davis on Sunday night after New Orleans’ road win in Dallas, I had the chance to ask him if he thinks the Pelicans will succeed in re-signing DeMarcus Cousins in free agency this summer in the wake of Cousins’ recent season-ending surgery.
Said Davis: “I hope so. That’s a decision he has to make. I’m pretty confident that he’ll stay. From what I hear, he plans on it. But I’m going to keep selling the dream here. I’ll be very involved — I want him here.”
At the time of Cousins’s injury, New Orleans’s two big men were on a pace to become the first teammates in league history to both average at least 25 points and 10 rebounds over the course of a full season and had both been voted in as All-Star starters. But Cousins will only be a few months into his rehab on July 1, when the Pelicans will have to decide how far to extend themselves to keep the 27-year-old after they were originally expected to offer him a five-year maximum contract worth an estimated $175 million.
