I used to go to church and read the Bible from time to time, and I’m for anyone believing in Christianity. I don’t see how believing in Christianity is so hated by some and yet they don’t complain about Islam.

Agree

quote:

Having said that, I really don’t want any part of a god created in the Middle East. There has been nothing but trouble in that region. We are created imperfect, but we are to strive for perfection which is impossible. I don’t need a book to tell me how I’m supposed to treat another human being.

Sin causes all the problems in the Middle East. For that matter everywhere.

quote:

Why stop at the Ten Commandments when there are many, many more.

It doesn't stop there. If you keep reading, there are plenty more.

quote:

Why would an African American believe the Bible? It condoned slavery and included passing the servants down to their descendants.

Doesn't actually condone, but it doesn't condemn it either. Also, because the Bible provides hope, even for slaves.

quote:

We are supposed to get to god thru Jesus. Wonder why we can’t get to god without Jesus?

Because Jesus' blood is the only remedy for man's sin.

quote:

Personally, I don’t want a god that would let his son die.

Actually it "pleased" God to see his Son's death.

Agree? Atheists, myself included, bitch about Islam all the time. Guys like Sam Harris get BLASTED by the left for going hard at Islam. the reason you probably don;t hear it is because you're not listening for it, and because we live in a nation where Christianity is the majority religion. That's why you hear that one talked about...because it's the one we have.

C'mon man...

quote:

Leviticus 25:44-46 ESV /
As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property. You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly.

I could go on and on with this...

Sure does! This sounds awesome...

quote:

Ephesians 6:5 ESV
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ,

Exodus 21:20-21 ESV
“When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be avenged, for the slave is his money.

Titus 2:9-10 ESV
Slaves are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

Exodus 21:1-36 ESV
“Now these are the rules that you shall set before them. When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out alone. But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’ ...

Very hopeful.

I'd suggest not going down the "But context!!!" road here...
