His dad was a pole vaulter at LSU

His mom is Swedish, not sure if she was at LSU, but we had Swedes by the dozen under Henry, when the track program was competently managed. So it's possible that Mondo's dad met her at LSU or in the T&F circuit, his dad was very good too.

I think I heard that his father wanted him to have the college experience. But with the way Shavers is running the program down (today we finished 11th in the SEC), I don't want to predict the outcome on MD's eventual decision. He signed with LSU, FWIW....

His dad was there at the end of Boots Garland's reign as head coach and for 2 or 3 years when Billy Maxwell took over as the head coach. When Maxwell took over is really when LSU track started ascending. When Pat Henry came, the nucleus of the great teams was already in place. Maxwell resigned because he had some family issues.....I think his son was pretty messed up on drugs but I can't recall exactly. That's why Sam Seemes took over for a year before henry came because Maxwell's resignation was unexpected. We had a bunch of swedes then too and Greg Duplantis' future wife was on the team.

but LSU T&F has had years where they don't use all roster spots available. Very odd things going on.

Men's Track only get 12.5 scholarships per year and women get 18. So unless you can get a top athlete, you don't waste a scholly on someone who likely won't score at NCAAs. Actually, very few athletes get a full ride. Most get partials so you can recruit a few more athletes. But with so few schollys, you're never going to recruit for every event. LSU has usually concentrated on sprinters.

She was on the track team and played volleyball for LSU. His older brother is currently on the LSU baseball team...you've probably heard of him.
