His dad (BIL) is in the military; it’s important to him that both kids (son, daughter) are extremely comfortable and capable around firearms.
Nephew has been shooting regularly for awhile now and uses better form and safety precautions than many adults.
Probably one of the most down-to-Earth, responsible kids I know.

At home, we dont even trust them with alcohol. Why should they get guns?

- Bump stocks: Clearly a loophole to get around restrictions on automatic firearms. Close the loophole.
- age restrictions: Voting is a right, and we have age limits. Why do we have age limits? Because teenagers are not mature enough to make consequential decisions. I'd take a compromise: You can't buy a gun until you're 21, and you can't vote until you're 21. Problem solved.
- A revamp of training and security for schools. Every school gets a metal detector, every school gets 1 or 2 armed guards, either a local volunteer, paid off duty cop, or an assistant principal with appropriate training. This 'lock the door and shelter in place' idea is fricking dumb. Barricade the room.
- We end the nonsense of 'gun free zones'.

That's a negative. Firearms with bump stocks are still semiauto firearms. The trigger resets between every shot.

I get it. But looking at what's being reported isn't saying your nephew can't have it. It's just a way to keep the parenting and uncleing in for a bit longer.
It doesn't solve anything for most gun owners.
The other gun barrel we're looking down is mental health. That's the angle that solves the most but it's full of slippery slopes as not everyone on mood enhancers is planning to murder spree.
The biggest thing that needs to happen is the goddamned reporting agencies need to get their act together. This kid was red flagged all over and we recently had that dishonorable shoot up a church. Both were very stoppable if the right people were talking.
If we gotta force parents to parent then we gotta though. Make it a buck stops with the parent so someone harboring another Lanza doesn't keep him in a house with easy access.
It fricking sucks and it won't stop everybody cuz it'll either be a stolen gun or a bomb or a truck.

None yet thankfully. But if Trump infringes on these boys' 2nd amendment rights, I cant wait to see the spin.
