I was told to always have med payments because it’s just not for you but everyone in the car. I don’t know who will be with me or if they have insurance.

I assessed my personal risk like this, if something catastrophic happens, I want my spouse to be there and not have to worry about work or our finances. Sure we have money put away but I’ve seen people who were “OK” then next thing you know they need home health care for two years, the savings are dwindling and the spouse can’t return for 6-8 months or is too stressed (causes a breakdown).

66 2/3rds of my income isn’t enough to maintain our standard of living if she isn’t working.

Our healthcare deduct is like $3,000 now I think? That’s really not a consideration. But that $25-30K runway we have in savings will be gone pronto in 5-6 months if we are both out of work due to being sick/disables and dealing with medical expenses.

I value that peace of mind at those ridiculously high limits.
