This wasn't a 'troll' or a 'gotcha' or trick question. It was just trading one for the other. Permanently. Doesn't have to be Guns & Abortion either. It can be any two issues. Usually compromise must happen to get things like this done.

Because so many people on both sides will flat out refuse to concede anything to other side. In some people’s minds, conceding or compromising equates to giving the other side legitimacy. It’s like people think that the ultimate endgame is 100% defeat of the opposing ideology is somehow possible.
It’s an interesting hypothetical IMO if we’re simply keeping the context in a vacuum.
