One slight exception to this is when they are in PT uniform

to everything you said. I've been in since Nov '88 (will retire in 2 more years) and the product that has been coming out of Basic sine the early 2000's has been less than stellar. For every great Soldier we get, there 4 others that I would want to send back.
The Suede boot has contributed to the lack of discipline and pride in the uniform. Remember polishing your boots everyday so that you didn't look ATFU? I think the army needs to go back to leather boots, Hell even the new dress shoes don't require much maintenance.
PC has infected the Army in an awful way. The Drill SGTs aren't even allowed to break you down and build you into a Soldier. Be careful what you say, you may have a complaint filed against you for hurt feelings. How are the Drill Instructors supposed to do their job with all the PC BS?
