With that being said, I find it kind of bizarre that Bruno Mars won album of the year over Jay-Z, Kendrick or Childish.

And, for the record, I think Childish is aight. At times, Jay-Z was aight - but, then he kept showing up everywhere and not contributing anything. May have been overexposure.
But, for that matter, Tupac was overexposed, but there was no denying his talent (or, for that matter, Dre) - and I say this as, obviously, not a huge fan of rap.

Kendrick and Gambino's albums were much weaker than their previous offerings and Jay-Z's flat out sucked.

It was a better album with a wider audience.
I don't think it was close between those. There are a few others that weren't nominated that I wish were there though.
