That's typically what people want so people read their works. No one is going to title something "A Brief Anecdotal Treatise on Declaring One's Political Affiliation in Opposition to Other's Expectations." Why? No one would read that due to the crappy title.

Actually no. That's your idea of what it says coming through.
It only says the coming out as Republican went WORSE (which is an open comparison) than coming out as gay (no indication in title of how well that was accepted).
The piece goes on the say that coming out to their family went well so we have a comparison between coming out as gay (which went well) to coming out as a Republican (which went poorly; especially in comparison to coming out gay).
