I wondered the same thing yesterday. Doesn't seem like he was shy about jumping into the job.
So were the reports wrong about him not wanting the job, or was he being dishonest with O initially?

In the bowl game press conference last year, he said O came to him about OC and he said no. Said he would do it though to help the team. Now it’s his dream job.
